40 for 40

Lose 40kg by 21 July 2028.

The goal

Forty kilograms before my fortieth birthday. That's the idea behind 40 for 40. I turn forty on 21 July 2028, and I've given myself a big, slightly terrifying goal to work towards before then. I've lost more than 60 kg before, so I know what commitment, consistency and hard work look like. I also know that progress isn't always neat, life doesn't politely rearrange itself around your plans, and sometimes the scale behaves like it has a personal vendetta. I started again on 22 October 2026.

Not because I'd found a miracle solution. Because I wanted to make a change.

The approach

I'm building this around actual life. Family dinners. Work. Cooking. The occasional restaurant meal. Braais. Busy days. Tired days. Days when everything goes according to plan and days when it very much does not. I want meals that taste good, sensible portions, enough protein and a healthier relationship with the habits I can control. I'm also working towards making movement a regular part of my life again. I've done the gym-five-days-a-week thing before. I know what I'm capable of, but I'm not pretending to be back there already.

This isn't a coaching programme, a meal plan I'm selling or a promise of perfect results. It's my personal goal, documented as it happens. And no, potatoes have not been banned.

Follow along

The Progress page is where you'll find every weigh-in I choose to share, including the weeks that don't go the way I'd hoped. The Blog is where I'll share the bigger picture: updates, lessons, setbacks, victories and whatever else real life decides to contribute. You'll also find the food I'm making in Recipes, because I firmly believe getting healthier shouldn't mean eating miserable dinners. If you're working towards something of your own, you're welcome to follow along. I'm not here as an expert with all the answers. I'm just Rob.

And I've got forty reasons to keep showing up.
