Who am I?

My name is Robyn Snyman and my journey started a little over a year ago. Tipping the scale at a little over 180kg, I was depressed and it felt like every attempt at losing weight just didn’t work. I’d heard from SO many doctors over the years that I need to see a dietician and go into a calorie deficit. Yeah? That’s all well and good….but what if your body just says a big fat resounding “NO!”? I’ve tried multiple diets, starving myself, intermittent fasting, this product, that product, you name it! Nothing, just NOTHING worked!!! I remember sitting and thinking that this would be my reality for the rest of my life….
Until, my body started giving up. I couldn’t keep food down. Everytime I tried to eat just about anything, within a couple of minutes, I’d be hugging the toilet who, during that time, became my best friend. I know, lame right? But that was my reality. My hubby was the one who decided that it was time I take this seriously and see a doctor. I was feeling despondent. Because every time I see the doctor, I feel like just a number and so dismissed. I ended up thinking that the doctors probably look at me and think, this chick! If she’d just lose weight. Well yeah, I was trying dammit! My body at that point felt like it was forcing me to lose weight anyways by not being able to keep the food down.
After doing some digging, I found a doctor in Cape Town that I wanted to go and see. Purely based off of his reviews (5 star all around), I made the appointment to see him…nervous as hell!

Despite what the media may lead you to believe, happiness can’t be achieved through numbers on the scale. Feeling good about yourself is so much more important than striving for a certain body type — especially when that body type simply isn’t obtainable. Rather than a too-small pair of jeans or a fashion model in a magazine, the best weight loss motivation tends to be the energy you feel after an invigorating workout or the joy that’s sparked when you feel good in a new dress, and if you need some inspiration, then you’re at the right place!

Remember: Everybody is different, so the weight loss plan that works for your friend may not work for you. Likewise, it’s important to think about why you want to lose weight rather than simply doing so out of a feeling of obligation. A smaller number on the scale doesn’t equate to health, after all, just as a smaller body is not necessarily a healthier one.
